The school year
Six subjects run through every grade. The work grows with the child, and each teacher moves at the class's pace.
Phonics and read-alouds in kindergarten, then novels, essays and a writing notebook that travels up the grades.
Blocks and beads first, then fractions, graphs and the math of a garden bed or a bridge.
A short reading each morning, a Bible class each week and chapel on Wednesdays.
Beds behind the school, a science bench in the upper grades and a walk to the creek each season.
Stories of people and places, a map on the wall and a timeline that grows along the hallway.
Paint, clay and recorders, with singing every week and a concert for families in the spring.
